The Doc Spratley Red is a well known Western trout nymph. One of the deadliest searching nymphs you could use of the Bow River or many of the other well known Western rivers and still waters. If large Caddis are hatching then this is your go to fly. These seems to be differing opinions on who originated this great pattern. Some say it was a Dorothy Prankard who crafted the original fly for Dr. Sprately and other report it was developed by Dick Prankard from Mt. Vernon, WA and named after his close fly fishing buddy, Dr. Donald Spratley. Either way it's just a great Trout fly so stock up your fly boxes today!
